Abstract

the organizational behaviour of the public / private sector. As we know that this is Multinational Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) working for the inculcation of the moral values and spiritual disciplines to improve the art of living to cope with the present stressful situations prevailing in the world. A lot of research has been conducted into stress over the last hundred years. Some of the theories behind it are now settled and accepted; others are still being researched and debated. What complicates this is that intuitively we all feel that we know what stress is, as it is something we have all experienced. A definition should therefore be obvious. Stress is physical or emotional reaction/response to any kind of change - exter or internal. Stress is a form of pain that comes to tell me there is something I need to change. Pain is a messenger that comes to tell me there is something I need to learn. Hans Selye was one of the founding fathers of stress research. His view in 1956 was that “stress is not necessarily something bad – it all depends on how you take it. The stress of exhilarating, creative successful work is beneficial, while that of failure, humiliation or infection is detrimental.” Selye believed that the biochemical effects of stress would be experienced irrespective of whether the situation was positive or negative. In short, it's what we feel when we think we've lost control of events. WE are not learning lessons from stress and have started to live with this pain. WE have become use to this pain, so we don't realize we nee to change. It should be realized that our thoughts are seed to what we become. Physiological symptoms - Cardiac - increased heart rate , Respiratory - increased respiration , Skin - decreased temperature, Hormonal - increased stimulation of adrenal genes which produce an adrenal rush. Behavioral symptoms - Lack of enthusiasm for family, school, work or life in general, withdrawal, change in eating habits, insomnia, anger, fatigue. Our negative thoughts reduces our immunity Fear can lead to heart problems Tension-tenses our muslces, contracts them which is efecting our digestive system ultimately leads to ulcer. Stress taken at young age bursts out at age of 30-35 in the form of diabetes, BP Earlier heart attacks at age of 40-45 were normal but now heart attacks at age of 20yrs are common. Hypertension, diabetes is becoming common thing among school children. Tearfulness Fear, Anxiety, Panic, Guilt, Agitation, Depression, Overwhelmed. External Fast changing world, hurry, consumerism, media, government policies, population explosions, pollution , family problems, job stress Internal Change of attitude, fear, jealousy, hatred, aspirations, approach Some Illusions about Stress , Blame outside environment for the stress You have to be doctor to treat and diagnose stress Stress is normal part of everyday's life Now these days stress has become a status symbol. People think stress is a measure of success. Some stress is necessary to reach peak performance. You cannot perform well without stress. Tension is normal. This is because people have not lived a life without stress for a long time. There is difference between pressure and stress. Stress is purely a physical phenomena and rest and relaxation will make it go away Going on holiday or taking off from office can reduce stress. Physical exercise reduces stress. But we should realize even if I take this body anywhere my thoughts accompanies me. Though we get a change from our daily routine, environment. This is kind of rest for the body and not mind. Relaxation is making your mind rest. Relaxation is calming your mind. These things can divert your mind but cannot finish them off. Medicines reduces our stress, Stress is because of others , Situation or people. Situation is a trigger as we cannot change them so it holds 10% of our stress. Rest 90% is on our reaction to such situations. Stress = pressure / resilience
