Abstract

Values and spirituality are central to the moral philosophy of human civilization and its legal institutions. Education in value and spirituality is to inspire participants to re-examine their ideas and beliefs about spirituality. It covers subjects where clarity about value and spirituality is important. The subjects for exploration include the dynamic tension between the emotional and psychological impact of archaic social attitudes, gender bias, economic and social stress, human rights addiction and environmental issues. Our collective inability to live up to our espoused value and moral principles with the exception of a few outstanding individuals paved the way for a long but slow moral decline. Today we face a crisis of values. Conventional education has become oriented towards acquiring specialized skills and knowledge to the purpose of obtaining remunerative work. But many other elements such as values, culture integrity and other divine skills which make one a better man and woman who can qualitatively contribute to a civilised world and values are essential to meet social challenges and the stress and expectation of life in the family, in the community and in the work place. If an individual had not the opportunity to develop character, inner strength and power of good judgement and discrimination they are at a disadvantage in any social and professional environment. Unless individuals take time to think about their value, to form an ethical and moral policy for themselves and cultivate integrity of thoughts, words and actions and to determine their priority, they remain ill equipped with handicapped mind to deal with the various tests they will face in the life. Corruption, bribery and nepotism are prevalent in India, though India is considered as the most ancient land with richest heritage and spirituality. According to Justice M.N. Venkilachalian, Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, “People think that corruption can solve their problem and fulfill their earning for survival”. Materialism and monetory development are considered to be a degree of development and human and moral values have been displaced by materialism. Science and technical study may increase a student's knowledge and sharpen his or her memory and numerical faculties - but they don't know how to apply the power of reasoning and analysis to subjects like Language.
