Abstract

Holistic personal development is the multi-faceted process of becoming self- actualised. It involves all aspects of the self including the physical, mental, emotional & spiritual and also includes taking personal responsibility for one’s own learning & development through a process of assessment, reflection and action. Holistic approach to physical development considers not only the physical but mental, cognitive and emotional development. The term personal development normally comprises a very wide field. It includes physical and psychological development from childhood to a grown-up person, knowledge oriented education, training abilities, accumulating experiences as well as developing personality and character of a human being. Spirituality refers to spirit, mind, higher faculties, soul and highly refined thoughts and feeling. It means awareness of the incorporeal and the concept that spirit exists independently from matter. The practice of spirituality means to understand your identity as a spiritual being or a soul, to consider all others as spiritual brothers and sisters and focus on our collective and original spiritual qualities of peace, purity and love. With spirituality, we designate our relationship with the spiritual world. A sense of connection forms the central defining characteristic of spirituality. It is a connection to something greater than oneself which includes an emotional experience of religious awe and reverence and also relates to matters of sanity and psychological health. It also comprises questions about the meaning of life and about our personal attitude towards life as a whole and all its related goals & cycles. We should realize that the purpose of our incarnation is to live in the material world, to gain some experiences and to develop some of our qualities further – personal growth. In most cases, these qualities are unconditional love, joy, self-honesty, modesty and humility.
