Abstract
Modern man is a very new phenomenon. No traditional method can be used exactly as it exists because modern man never existed before. So, in a way, all traditional methods have become irrelevant.... A catharsis is needed because your heart is so suppressed, due to your brain. Your brain has taken over so much of your being that it dominates you. There is no place for the heart, so the longings of the heart are suppressed. You have never laughed heartily, never lived heartily, never done anything heartily. The brain always comes in to systematize, to make things mathematical, and the heart is suppressed. So firstly, a chaotic method is needed to push the centre of consciousness from the brain toward the heart.... ...Traditional methods have an appeal because they are so ancient and so many people have achieved through them in the past. They may have become irrelevant to us, but they were not irrelevant to Buddha, Mahavira, Patanjali or Krishna. They were meaningful, helpful. The old methods may be meaningless now, but because Buddha achieved through them they have an appeal. The traditionalist feels: "If Buddha achieved through these methods, why can't I?” But we are in an altogether different situation now. The whole atmosphere, the whole thought-sphere, has changed. Every method is organic to a particular situation, to a particular mind, to a particular man. The fact that the old methods don't work doesn't mean that no method is useful. It only means that the methods themselves must change. As I see the situation, modern man has changed so much that he needs new methods, new techniques. Some people talk about meditation and others claim to know about meditation but unless you regularly practice meditation you will never truly understand about meditation and all the wonderful benefits you can achieve. Meditation reduces stress and helps us deal with the constant barrage of sensory input to which we are subjected every day. As we go through our day, we usually have a constant mental commentary running in the background. Contemplation and reflection can help us reduce all this mental activity and bring peace and calmness into our minds. Meditation can help us to rejuvenate our awareness. Countless people and cultures have practiced meditation over the centuries. Meditation effects are numerous and benefit all who practice it. From improving your health to improving your mind, meditation effects cover a wide spectrum. It has widely been known the effect that meditation has on the mind and science now gives even more credibility to this argument. Meditation offers many special effects on the body like a reduced level of stress. This factor alone is well worth practicing meditation. Stress opens the door to many illnesses and diseases. Stress also decreases the ability to concentrate and remember things. Therefore your memory will be better if you meditate. You will experience higher levels of creative thought and tap into your intuition. Common benefits of meditation include increased awareness, a feeling of relaxation, better mental focus, and greater clarity of mind. These effects have been backed up by scientific studies which show that stress reduction occurs in people who meditate regularly. More and more doctors tell their patients about meditation and recommend it for many stress related illnesses. Even if you don't feel these benefits right away, it's important that you stick with your meditation program. Meditation is a practice that brings about not only physical benefits, but psychological benefits as well. Bringing oneself to a state of rumination through meditation has amazing effects on the psych of a person. Relaxation and a decrease in stress are rather obvious benefits, but many people do not realize that meditation can also improve moods and memory and decrease moodiness and depression. The various effects of meditation are quite extensive in range. Meditation has long been thought to have beneficial spiritual consequences, but recently, science has also backed up claims of physical benefits that are worth the consideration of anyone hoping to begin meditative study. Showing that more and more positive effects of meditation are being found and substantiated as meditation becomes more mainstream. Deliberation and meditative practice have been proven to allow people to change the way their minds work and to obtain different levels of consciousness. While the states that are achieved in contemplation have traditionally been understood from a religious or metaphysical perspective, this research tracks the actual changes in the brain. Researchers from the University of Wisconsin have been working in conjunction with Tibetan monks to show that these transcendent experiences, caused by reflection and rumination, cause intense activity in the prefrontal cortex of the brain. Meditation effects are in everyone’s best interest. Being able to develop balance in your life is priceless. Meditation can help do exactly that. Controlling your thoughts in the midst of any situation is critical to success in life. No matter how stressful or fast paced the world is you can learn to choose your thoughts. Once you learn this critical skill, you will be in control. There are even examples from science that support these claims.
