Abstract

Meditation refers to the cultivation of positive factors in one’s life, through a practice session and/or throughout one’s daily life. Meditation may be compared to a sports, where with practice one develops greater skill in what is being practiced. There has been an increase in scientific research, experiments, studies, and the like, on how meditation changers the body, especially the brain. New results show that indeed meditation does change the body in significant ways which are beings scientifically demonstrated using state-of-the-art measuring techniques, such as MRI and EEG. Meditation has historically been associated with religious traditions, especially eremitic and monastic lifestyles. Today much of what is considered meditation in the West is no longer religiously affiliated, for example many mindfulness-based programs. The program is visited by many individuals, ranging from those who are sick, mentally or physically, to professional and businessmen. The reason for this is that meditation have a variety of very powerful benefits for those practicing the techniques of meditation offered.
