Abstract
A family is the basic unit of the society. Earlier there were joint families consisting of grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, father mother and siblings. Even there were great grandparents. All the members were loving and caring. In spite of diversity of relationships their common bond was love, happiness, mutual understanding etc. The progress in the field of science and technology and the modern means of transport and communication gave rise to nuclear families. A nuclear family consists of parents and siblings. Mother plays a very important role in the family. Father is the head of the family. Parents are the role models for their children. Mother is the first guru or first teacher of the child. Thane is an industrially advanced district in the state of Maharashtra. Its population is more than 3,00,000. Its importance has increased as it is the neighbouring district of Mumbai, the financial capital. TV is one of the most important means of recreation. It is the source of information for viewers in their homes. TV is no longer a comfort; it has become a necessity of the family and individual’s life.
