Abstract

In this project “Motivational Factors Adopted in a School,” the motivational factors adopted by teachers and character development for students are taken as a survey in a Municipal Middle School in Erode, Tamil Nadu, India. If we have positive thinking, then we are able to face various challenges in our daily lives. When a person is morally developed, he or she can be called as a productive citizen. Moral development of a person is attained through character development. This concept of character development is necessary for the students‟ future. Schools today face enormous challenges in educating all of the young people in their charge. In addition to providing youth with basic academic knowledge and skills, and promoting their character development, schools have increasingly been called upon to play a primary role in helping to solve a variety of social problems among youth. Although, historically, schools have always had responsibility for both academic and character development, the total number of areas to be addressed in the curriculum today may seem overwhelming. Motivation is of particular interest to educational psychologists because of the crucial role it plays in student learning. However, the specific kind of motivation that is studied in the specialized setting of education differs qualitatively from the more general forms of motivation studied by psychologists in other fields. Motivation in education can have several effects on how students learn and how they behave towards subject matter. It can: Direct behavior toward particular goals, Lead to increased effort and energy , Increase initiation of, and persistence in, activities , Enhance intellectual processing , Determine what consequences are reinforcing 6. Lead to improved performance. Because students are not always internally motivated, they sometimes need situated motivation, which is found in environmental conditions that the teacher creates.
